writing is safer, somehow
because my pen cannot stutter like my lips do,
and words get stuck in throats,
not fingertips, can’t stumble
on paper trails of blue lines
because writing is definite and clear
and no one can tell if i am crying
or laughing
through written words alone

I’ve never lost anyone close to me and my parents aren’t divorced. I don’t have anxiety, and I love my life, for the most part. It’s hard for me to imagine the pain and suffering people are going through, though I wish I could. Nothing I’m saying is new and it’s been stated better many times, but I need to write it down to process.

In these times of trial, it’s important for us to refocus our minds on the big picture and on what we’re all trying to reach in the end.

”And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” ~Romans 8:28

God is working for OUR good. Although we can’t always see it, we know that Jesus wins in the end. HE wins, not death. So all this suffering now, won’t be here much longer, in the aspect of eternity. I believe the lives taken from us in the recent Boston tragedy, including an eight year-old boy, are resting in Jesus’ arms tonight, and I believe the world is resting in God’s hands. There is nothing to fear when we look at the big picture.

There are people in the world that go down the wrong path and make decisions that harm others. But they are still people, created by God as His children and we are called to love and pray for them. I have to remember that casting blame on others never offers a solution, but rather fosters another issue entirely. There are helpers in the world. The first responders to the bombings, the people donating blood, the people offering their homes, and the people praying. People, helping people. It’s up to us.

Today the meals of 13 of my friends were paid anonymously by a “man sitting in the back” said the waitress. Later, I got to play with a baby boy who couldn’t stop smiling and laughing at everything he saw. These little moments remind me that LOVE and LIFE win. Death has been conquered and we are FREE by the blood of Christ. Let’s take advantage of that freedom and focus on the good in the world. Focus on what we can do for others and what we can do to further the work of Christ in God’s Kingdom. God bless.

Today I had the opportunity to shadow one of the worship leaders at my church. Everybody there has taken their time to invest in me and teach me skills I’ll need to be “marketable” at a church someday. I’m not totally sure what I want to do with my life. I love talking to people in the city, so ministering to people that haven’t heard Jesus in an outreach context seems very appealing. Traveling is also something I love, so missions may be my thing. I’m just so thankful I have the resources and people who will take the time to assist me any way they can, to grow God’s kingdom someday. It’s an empowering thought and not one that I will let go of easily. I’m determined to work hard at learning new skills and increasing the ones I already have. Mostly I just can’t wait for what God has in store. It’s crazy to think about what I could be doing in only a few years based on how I’m preparing now. I’M SO EXCITED!!
